water floaties

When I was a youngster I remember visiting my grandma's house in the summer right here in Happy Valley. Naturally I drank a lot of water while I was visiting. I vividly remember one time while about to innocently take a swig of water from my glass.

That's when I saw them.

Little whitish specs floating lazily around my glass. FLOATIES!!
I was completely repulsed but kept peering at them and wondering what ARE those things? and how did they get in my water??

I couldn't figure it out. I kept reaching for new cups, thinking it must have been a dirty glass, but they kept reappearing! Upon the point of dehydration, I decided to drink only from th hose in her backyard. (at least i couldn't see them coming out at that speed)

jump ahead about 10 years. I moved to Provo when I was 18 and never encountered this problem again until I moved into University Avenue Condos. They were back!! I was a bit wiser and noticed they only appeared when there was ice in my glass. I can't be the only one to notice this, right???

I checked the ice trays...perfectly clear water goes in. Yet once they meet my water floaties appear without fail! I had to stop using ice.

This was a major tragedy in my life due to my complete love of ice. If you ask my 12 year old brother what my favorite foods are he would say "chips and salsa and ice". I love to crunch on ice (yah yah, i've heard the warnings) i love putting it in my drinks, i love just looking at it even. And the circle ice? from sonic??? oooh man. true love.

So today, I decided I was gonna figure out what all this floaty business is about. And I am here to tell all of you who have struggled with this floatie issue as well.

according to wikipedia:
Melting ice cubes sometimes precipitate white flakes, commonly known as "floaties". This is calcium carbonate which is present in many water supplies and is completely harmless.

So there you have it. May be completely harmless, but it's still gross-looking. At least I know.

oh blog... what to do with you...what to do

i'm currently debating who my favorite founding father is. (totally weird..who even cares? what normal person debates this? then again, i never claimed normalcy) Anyways, currently it is Thomas Jefferson. So I'm taking it upon myself to read the biographies of those in the running. Naturally Jefferson is first.

I guess I'm in this mind set because I just got back from visiting DC for a week with my fam!! It was tons of fun. Lots of walking. Lots of walking. Annnnd i got to see a certain someone! I posted pictures on facebook and wasn't going to post any on here bc i'm pretty lazy sometimes. BUT i just decided to post a few i didn't post on facebook. A special blog-readers-only preview, if you will.

honest to blog

I enjoy blogging which is why i have a blog. Although sometimes my favorite part is redesigning it. But sometimes I wish i was a better blogger. Not in how frequently i update, but in the quality of my posts. Where is my talent?? Not in blogging...thats for sure! I did have an idea though for more interesting posts. I was thinking about some funny stories/incidents that have started to fade in my memory and I could blog about those so that A) i could remember them and B) perhaps provide some entertainment to someone out there in the blogosphere. I already have some ideas brewing in my mind. SO for those blog stalkers out there...you may have sometime interesting to look forward to!! I think my first story will be about the hitchhiker i picked up (kinda). muahah

the xanga years

Who remembers Xanga? Well back in 2003-2005 I had one, and today I rediscovered it. It's still out there in the internet cyber-world. I was reading a few of my entries and I had some good laughs. Here's a pretty great post from April 3, 2004, when i was 17--a junior in h.s.:

high school is so freakin stupid. like seriously. stupid. actually its not high school thats stupid. its teenagers. yep. thats what it is. teenagers and their raging horomones. right now, people are mad at each other, and at me. and i think they think im mad at them. but the thing is im not. im honestly just confused. bc i don't understand, why we're mad at each other. i didn't do anything. I just wish we could remember that we're friends and have fun. i mean its such a waste of time to be mad at people. you could either be mad or be happy. i mean espeacially when you know it'll be over in a couple days. but just for the record.......i was never mad at anyone, im still not mad at anyone. lets just all be friends.....please!!

Here's one more from May 8, 2004:

ya so...last night kinda sucked. im mad. i was going to go to this party. i've been planning on it since wednesday. well, i don't even know exactally what happened, i just know that i didn't go. it was down in fayetteville and i was really tired, and i don't know, i just decided not to go this time. but i really did want to go. after work i couldn't decided if i wanted to go or not, and so i went to barnes and noble for a 1/2 hour to try and decide what i should do, and by then it was 11, and i decided that i should probably just go home. ARG. now im kinda mad at myself but oh well. oh yea and FYI--its barnes and noble not barnes and nobleS, mmk, no 'S'. thats one of my pet peeves, when people say it wrong. anyways so i came home and found out my mom had took it upon herself to block mtv, mtv2 and vh1, which are like the only channels i watch. anyways, so me and tyler and taylor tried for like 20 mins to figure out the password, but with no luck. but since my mom is a brilliant person, i went downstairs and found out that she hadn't blocked it down there, so im good. :) anyways im gonna go do something now.....

good times. good times.

Waiting for the VRE

It's 7 am and I'm here in quantico, va just waiting for my train. It's running 25 minutes late, naturally. Anyways, I've watched a couple trains run by full-speed and I was just thinking how much it would suck to get hit by one of these suckers. I'm on my way back to Utah. I've practically ben living out of a suitcase since school got out in April, so it'll be nice to be stationary for a couple weeks before the bland reunion in Indiana!! Woot woot! This summer is already flying by and it's kinda freaking me out. Anyways I'll be blogging soon with pictures next time. But here's a horrible picture...I was trying to take ampicillin of the red quantico sign (iPhones don't zoom) but whateves!

and here's one more pic from the weekend:

Oh and one more! I went to the portrait gallery in DC and check out this crazy face, aka Walt Whitman:
