Please take my cat. I have owned him five years and I think it's someone else's turn to have to put up with him. He opens kitchen cupboards and eats ANYTHING he can find inside. I mean ANYTHING. So far he has eaten cornmeal, rice (uncooked), bars of soap, entire loaves of bread, boxes of cereal, pop-tarts, pudding cups (yes he gnaws his way through the plastic), entire tubs of margarine, carrots, apples, a mango AND THE PAPER BAG IT WAS IN, boxes of uncooked spaghetti, bags of powdered sugar, animal crackers, whole raw eggs, and many many many cookies. YES I FEED THIS CAT REGULARLY. I have to keep my kitchen completely spotless and have child locks on all my cupboards, but he's learned how to fish stuff out with his paws. Not to mention all the garbages in the whole house. While I was typing this he snuck in behind me JUST NOW and licked the hot loaf of bread that is cooling on my stove. It's literally three feet away from me.

On the bright side he hasn't eaten any bananas yet.

He is a NICE CAT. He is soft and purrs and is cuddly and loving and would EAT YOU ALIVE IF YOU SUFFERED A STROKE OR HEART ATTACK AND WERE UNABLE TO DEFEND YOURSELF.

I would let him live outside--he LOVES to go out--but he eats birds and that makes me sad.

SO!

Maybe you live on take-out? You don't cook? You own a barn full of mice? You already have magnetized locks on all your cupboards for your toddlers? This cat loves people and gets along with other cats and dogs. Let me know if you want him!!

hot holiday toys!!

My dad was on the news today in arkansas to talk about Hot Holiday Toys available at the one and only Walmart. Toys have really advanced in the last 15 or so since I was a young gal.
On a side note, I was also thinking how weird it is that I can say,
"remember when i tipped over the shopping cart my newborn brother was in bc i was a jealous brat 22 years ago?" or  "I moved to arkansas 15 years ago." It's weird that life has been that long already. Anyways, the video is below. Click to see!

I've always loved this song, but I've been freakishly obsessed with it the last couple days. I think it's a sign.

Ratssss

Thought for the day. Good to apply to ourselves. Good to apply when dating.

"When I come to my evening prayers and try to reckon up the sins of the day, nine times out of ten the most obvious one is some sin against charity; I have sulked or snapped or sneered or snubbed or stormed. And the excuse that immediately springs to my mind is that the provocation was so sudden and unexpected: I was caught off my guard, I had not time to collect myself. Now that may be an extenuating circumstance as regards those particular acts: they would obviously be worse if they had been deliberate and premeditated. On the other hand, surely what a man does when he is taken off his guard is the best evidence for what sort of man he is?
Surely what pops out before the man has time to put on a disguise is the truth?
If there are rats in a cellar you are most likely to see them if you go in very suddenly. But the suddenness does not create the rats: it only prevents them from hiding. In the same way the suddenness of the provocation does not make me an ill-tempered man: it only shows me what an ill-tempered man I am. The rats are always in the cellar, but if you go in shouting and noisily they will have taken cover before you switch on the light."

some advice worth reading

I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to "health advice". There are so many opinions out there and I see so many people believe whatever anyone tells them when it comes to health, diet and exercise without thinking logically or doing any of there own research. I'm a full believer in logic and simplicity when it comes to health, but thats a whole other topic. With cold and flu season upon us I thought I'd share this interesting tidbit of information from Mercola.com (which seems to be a pretty good resource).

"There are a number of ways to ensure you won't end up with a cold. One of the most important is to make sure you optimize your vitamin D levels year-round.

In addition, there's compelling evidence that seasonal influenza is little more than a symptom of vitamin D deficiency!"

I think it makes sense. Hello, flu season is during the part of the year the sun shines the least. Even more interesting was this video:

I have never gotten a flu shot and I honestly cannot remember the last time I had the flu. In fact, usually tons of people I know that get the flu shot end up getting the flu. I swear these companies inflate the truth and spread it through the media to get everybody hyped up for nothing. Anyways don't get the flu shot because its really just a painful, annoying joke.
ps. literally everytime i wrote the word "flu" i wrote "flue"

pumpkin time

I LOVE PUMPKINS. October is one of my favorite months for so many reasons, but one in particular is pumpkin season. I believe in pumpkin year round, but unfortunately, in the business world, they do not. I love it when other little restaurant and shops start selling pumpkin goodies. It really just makes the world a better place.

Beautiful Potomac

I forgot to include this picture in my last post...on purpose..last post was picture overload. I snapped this pic of the Potomac on the flight leaving DC. I've really fallen in love with Virginia & DC this summer. I've been lucky to go out there 4 times in the last six months and i'll be out there one more time in a few weeks. It's a beautiful place with so much to see and do and so much history behind it all. I wouldn't mind living there one day. Wouldn't mind it at all.

Virginia is for LOVERS!

I spent this last weekend in Virginia and to sum up, it was lots of fun. Here's the quick rundown of activities:
Massages, Old Town Alexandria, Le Pain Quotidien, Antique shops, La Petit Auberge, Shenadoah Valley, Tomato Basil soup at Carrabbas, DC, National Aquarium, East Potomac Park

Old Town Alexandria is seriously the cutest place I have ever been. I want to live there. Everyone was riding bikes around and there were tons of little shops all over. I could spend forever walking those streets. I mean just look at this place!

Another side note from the trip...if you ever visit DC do not waste your time at the aquarium. Probably the biggest joke i've ever seen. It cost $9 and its pretty much a bunch of fish tanks with some exotic fish. It took us like maybe 20 mins to see the whole thing. I've been to significantly better aquariums in Chicago & Portland. Duke and I decided they spent more on advertising than on the actual aquarium itself. But i did snap some pictures of some cute little animals.

 seahorse!!

The Shenadoah Vally is GORGEOUS!! We drove up the Skyline Drive on the east side of the state. It was so fun and so scenic.

the last picture my camera took before its death

Such a fun trip. for reallls.

 beautiful, random building in DC

Duke likes it when I take pictures of him

Lake Powell

Last weekend I went on an impromptu trip to Lake Powell with a bunch of people from my ward. It was my first time at Powell and i LOVED it. Its so gorgeous down there!! PLUS i wakeboarded for the first time, and i even got up my first time (i just didn't stay up). But the second day I was able to actually stay up and enjoy myself for a bit. It was a great trip. the weather was great, the company was great and now I actually know more than 5 people in my ward.

Thats me in the pink juuuust about to jump

Sand Mountain-climbed to the top of that sucker

dance party

oh sooo much fun. Can't wait to go again.

woot woot!

Tonight I took one look at my blog and I almost had to vomit. It was pretty gross looking. Hopefully most of you were reading it in google-reader or something for your eyes sake. So I just spent the last who knows how long trying to redeem it. Its very plain-jane right now, but much more easy on the eyes. Oh how I wish i was a designer. Actually it is my secret plan to go back to school very soon here and get another degree in graphic design...or at least take a bunch of graphic design classes. I love design...I just need some professional help with it.
That reminds me I kinda got a job! I'm interning right now at Stephen Hales Creative (free labor) and Stephen Hales teaches history of graphic design at BYU and needed a TA, and guess who got the job! yahoo! I can only work 3-4 hours a week for $8.50/hr which means at MOST I could make $34/week. But i'm happy. $34 more dollars a week than I would have otherwise!

i climbed a mountain!

summit!

I finally hiked Mt. Timpanogos with my friend Loral. My first real mountain! We consider ourselves legit mountaineers now. We got a bit of a late start, bc we kinda didn't decide to really climb it till about 1030 that morning, and didn't get to the trail head till about 12:15. But we made pretty good time. 7.5 hours of just hiking our butts off. It's no easy hike. The first few hours we were all "this is pretty easy!" and then the last 45 mins to the summit totally sucked. But we made it! and it was fun! and I highly recommend it if you live in utah. or if you don't...just bring sunscreen..bc i didn't and i paid for it. Here's some pics (from loral):

" this is easy!"

I'm having fun now

As my loyal friends and readers might recall I am borderline obsessed with Jenny Lewis. Review here.

Last night I got to see her again (3rd time!) with Jonathan Rice in slc. ooh it was SOOO GOOD! She's sassy and precious and i just want to be friends with her. It was really nice too, bc the venue was pretty small (the stateroom) and it was 21 and up. (Such a difference it is going to an all ages concert vs 21& up.) It was cool because it felt like a more intimate setting, like they were just some friends putting on a show for us or something. The place cleared out pretty fast, but britt and I hung around for a bit and I was able to snag the set list and get it autographed. (not in person, but one of the crew guys took it back for me)

THEN, we were walking back to our car behind the venue and the 2 guys from her band were walking out. so i took the opportunity to get a picture and we chatted it up a little bit. See it was pretty cool because Jason Boesel is the drummer from Rilo Kiley (jenny lewis's other band) Plus he's pretty awesome so i was kinda estatic. I told him Rilo Kiley needs to put out another album...because i know me saying that will make it happen.

It was so cool.

After we got back in our car, i realized we should have been more aggressive and like tried to hang out with them or something. I just dont have any guts around "famous" people. I'm the kind of person who totally ignores people of any celebrity status. I don't know why but I dont want to be just another dumb fan, so i don't do/say anything. ha.

It was kind of surreal. Its the only time i've really ever been star struck. Now i just gotta meet Jenny. and Zooey. And then my life will be complete.

(lack of) labor day

Before I get to my weekend I just have to share the best* thing that happened to me today. I was looking for my free coldstone love-it card that i knoooowww I have somewhere, and while i didn't find it, I did find 2 things that have been lost for about 2 years. My spare car key and my most favorite of all time chapstick. Obviously after 2 years, I had accepted that they were lost forever, so i was completely ecstatic when i found BOTH of them in an old purse! Ohhh the little things in life, they'll getcha everytime...back to my weekend....(*kinda sad thats the best part of my day)
I had a grrreat weekend! I got to see my boyfriend TWO weekends in a row! pretty awesome. Last weekend we were in california and this weekend we went up to Logan and stayed with his mom. Here's some pictures from the weekend(s):
