Sailing in Okinawa

There is something about sailing that is so dreamy. And picturesque! A couple Saturdays ago we went with some of our good friends here and lucked out with some awesome weather during this gloomy rainy season. I love sailing!!! Especially when I don't have to do any of the work ;)

Our First Regatta!

Last Saturday Duke and I got to participate in a regatta! It was a just for fun type of event, but I think it's worth mentioning we took 2nd place...just behind the sailing instructor...no big deal. :)

It was pretty fun. We sailed in a 14 footer across the marina to a little beach. We had some lunch and waited for the rest of the boats to show up and then headed back. When Duke moved to Pensacola he decided to pick up sailing since he was lacking his beloved mountains. It's been a fun hobby, although nerve-racking at times (like the couple times we were in a storm, and the million times i swore we were soooo close to tipping!). We now have dreams of one day buying our own sailboat and sailing around the Caribbean, the Japanese islands, Indonesia...and wherever our little hearts take us. Some day!

Saturdays are fun days

Saturday was fun. Instead of the "gotta get stuff done" type of Saturday, it was more of a "lets just have fun" Saturday. It was sooooo nice. Especially after a rough week of having my car in the shop TWICE and having it die while driving. But thats a story for another day. On Saturday we slept in, got a nice little workout in, then went sailing! Duke met a guy when he checked into the base here who was into sailing, and that guy met a cool old British dude with a sailboat and on Saturday we got to come along as the crew. (Well I mostly sat there- perks of being a girl who didn't take sailing lessons). It was awesome. In Pensacola the biggest boat we sailed on was 22 foot and this one was 41 foot. So it was a little more complex, but good learning for that some day dream of having our own sailboat! Not to mention the weather was phenomenal. Sunny skies, mid 70's, amazing. Afterwards we went to eat at Grimaldi's, which apparently is the same chain as the one in NY. I thought it was just a wannabe place, but it was good! Then by some sort of magic I convinced Duke to let me walk around the mall and I scored some DIRT cheap items from Forever 21. That store is a haven for a girl on a budget, let me tell you. Then we came home, got in our pjs and watched a movie. My favorite way to end the day! (and can I tell you that I shot these pictures all in manual mode??! Stilllll learning, but it's been fun!)

really need some new sunnies. yikes.

Hello, Paradise

We love to sail. You may have noticed. I just found this post saved in my drafts. Duke's mom came to visit us for a quick weekend about 3 weeks ago. So we took her sailing.

We sailed to a new place and it was nothing short of paradise. I believe it is part of the Ft Pickens State Park. There was nobody there. The weather was perfection and the views were absolutely stunning. I could have stayed there the rest of my life! I'm pretty sad we just discovered this spot, but if I ever go back, this is on my list.

hello little crab!

are you kidding me? and this is just a picture

We will miss you Florida. Your beaches are the best.

Sailing in Pensacola

Last weekend we had some friends come stay with us for a short visit. Tyler was Duke's college BFF and they were on their way to Jacksonville, FL to move (of course right before WE move!). We had fun with them and Duke acted like a teenager with his bff around. We took them sailing down in Pensacola. I really love sailing and wish we took advantage of it more! Once we retire we have a dream of sailing somewhere. Not around the world, bc honestly, being at sea that long?? But we've thought maybe around the Americas-then you can stop at shore and what not.

Usually we just sail around and come back in. This time we sailed over a a restaurant where we could dock and eat a bite. It was a fun little afternoon and we were lucky it was sunny the whole time! The place we ate at offered an "Endagered Basket"...really?? It doesn't even sound good? We decided the price was probably so high, so they could pay whatever fines they have to pay for serving endangered foods.

It was a fun weekend and I'm glad they came! The day they left, we had my college BFF and husband come into town. I don't have any pics sadly bc they left for Destin Monday morning, but I'll be seeing them again this Saturday. I love when friends come visit!!!
